Gizzy and Cheries training tips: Issue 3
Dec 11, 2024Hello, fabulous pups and their humans! It’s your pal Gizzy, back from another epic journey! After my Boston adventures, I packed my bags again (well, Mom did…thanks, Mom!) and headed off to Acting School for a week. And guess what? This time, I brought my big, brave German Shepherd brother, Junior, along for the ride! Together, we sniffed out new hotels, worked on our superstar skills, and learned how to shine both on and off the stage. Here are some pawsome training tips inspired by our latest escapades:
1. Quiet, Please! Mastering Calm in New Spaces
Hotels are full of exciting noises (hellooo, housekeeping carts!), and being a polite guest is super important. Junior and I worked on staying quiet, even when every fiber of my being screamed, “Let me join in!” Oh, and I had to chill in my travel bag—not easy for a social butterfly like me! But hey, practice makes pawfect.
Gizzy’s Tips:
-
Teach the “Quiet” Cue: Start small, reward those silent moments, and work up to louder distractions. Treats make everything better!
-
Create a Cozy Spot: A familiar blanket, mat, or travel bag is like bringing a piece of home with you. Instant comfort!
2. Sharing Spaces with Sibling Style
Junior and I squished into hotel rooms together—and guess what? We made it work! Sharing isn’t always easy, but teamwork makes the dream work.
Gizzy’s Tips:
-
Practice Patience: Take turns getting treats or attention. Sharing is totally worth it!
-
Double the Tricks: Try synchronized tricks like a duo sit or down—it’s like being in a talent show!
3. Lights, Camera, Action! Acting School Lessons
Acting School was all about focus, marks, and…waiting. Yeah, waiting is not my strong suit (I’m Gizzy—I like to go fast!). But Junior, my wise bro, showed me that going slow can be fun, too. Who knew?
Gizzy’s Tips:
-
Strike a Pose: “Stay” and “look at me” will make your pup a social media star!
-
Add Some Pizzazz: Tricks like “wave” or “spin” are a great way to show off.
4. Adventure Enrichment on the Go
New places can be a bit overwhelming, but Mom kept us busy with fun games. Boredom? Never heard of it!
Gizzy’s Tips:
-
Sniffari Time: Hide treats and let your pup’s nose lead the way.
-
Portable Puzzles: Keep their brains buzzing with small, travel-friendly puzzles.
5. From Training to Chill Mode
After a day of adventures, it’s chill time. Junior’s hotel room manners were top-notch, and I got better at potty breaks on a leash. Go me!
Gizzy’s Tips:
-
Place Training: Teach your pup to chill on a bed or mat. Comfy vibes only!
-
Celebrate the Chill: When your pup relaxes, toss a treat. Because, duh, they deserve it!
That’s all for now, friends! Remember, every adventure—big or small—is a chance to sniff out something new, bond with your humans, and learn cool stuff. Until next time, keep wagging, keep exploring, and stay pawsome!
